DJing for Zappos actually started way before I even knew what Zappos was or better yet, a Paco!!! (Whom I am honored to have met and call him friend). For me it started long, long, ago at a spot called Treasure Island and a unique spot called Senior Frogs!
I never imagined being part of anything so solely based on community. Well that seems to be a focused point for Zappos, that as well as art, fashion, music, and well in some ways spiritual insights of good vibes and positive energy! I was only just getting into DJing professionally in the Las Vegas scene. I didn’t know what Zappos was at first or cared, to be honest. All I knew was it was a gig, a paying gig and that’s what counted to me at first. I DJ’d for a few hours watched all these people enjoying themselves, having a blast. That was the first gig I did for Zappos to my knowledge their first of many now Rock and Roll marathons.
That night I DJ’d for their headquarters celebration spot! In a few years later though, It would seem I would once again to be apart of the Zappos celebration once more. It began due to Paco who gives much support to the Art Community. I myself have been DJing for a lot of different restaurants and clubs, and bars, even for Art Galleries.
So I guess it was just a matter of time. Perhaps when I had the opportunity to once again spin for Zappos. Especially since he himself supported my online radio station which was the only one in the Art District at the time The Caffeine Radio.
It was destined to have him on my morning show called Coffee Grounds. Which I believe gave me insight to the world of the arts on a whole different level and insight to Zappos and the meaning of community and family within the Arts!
Thus I began to pursue any opportunity to DJ for Zappos. An opportunity did happen when a year or so later, Paco made an announcement that Z Boutique was having a special event for a local artist who worked got picked up by Zappos, Juan Muniz; Who I actually call a friend as well (Knew him through First Friday). It was dope seeing someone I know make his way up in the Art Community! He hasn’t stopped either.
He is also working on projects for the freaking Golden Knights!! But before that happened Juan Muniz was doing his thing for Zappos and thanks to Paco I was DJing the event!
I was totally blown away. Paco did as well; It was in style and I tried to represent with unique styles of music from deep house to Liquid Jazz.
This was my second moment DJing for Zappos, and to me this was more special, being apart of a friend’s celebration of his talent and determination, being successful of what he love’s to do! Now I didn’t think of it at the time, but Paco really gave me support, seriously. He asked me to return once more to DJ for Zappos for yet another event they were hosting at Zappos’s head Quarters. This time I came harder than ever. Did more requests as well giving some tribal, hip hop and of course Liquid Jazz
As a few Weeks passed I was asked by another associate and friend of Paco to DJ for the Zappos Black History Month event. I let my partner The Socialite DJ do that event, and she did a damn good job! Doing a set that focused on Black American songs that focused on civil rights and African roots! Now that was last event with dealing with Zappos directly. I have to wonder, was it all due to Paco, I’m sure a majority of it was so.. duh! lol But since he left Zappos, it’s been rather hard to get a hold of who to contact, or sadly enough perhaps no interests
of my style of spinning. I don’t know, but recently unknowingly once mo
re I got caught up in the Zappos world lol!
My partner The Socialite DJ and I DJ’d for Bronze Café,
we were actually the resident DJ’s for them. Saturdays, and Sundays for three months straight,
also for Eureka!Sports Bar and Grill for two moths, and from there we became Flock and Fowl’s resident DJ’s for two months.
They all work with Downtown Project in one way or another ! But what was dope was that we had the pleasure to spin for Fergusons Downtown.
Which all in one way or another have some part with Zappos which is dope to me! I’d love to return to spin for more with Zappos if given the chance or opportunity. You never know till that happens I keep pushing my style of music, Liquid Jazz!
Much love and Respect!
